Sustainable thinking across the organisation

At FMI, sustainability is no longer an afterthought: it’s a strategic priority.

Across all business units, awareness and action are increasing in response to new regulations, rising customer expectations, and global challenges such as resource scarcity and rising energy costs.

Together with our partners in the Dutch Technology Alliance, we are accelerating the transition to more sustainable operations.

This includes investing in renewable energy at production sites, reviewing existing designs for circular use, and developing new services that extend the lifespan of high-tech systems.

Return for Re-Use

One of our key initiatives is the Return for Re-Use programme.

With our Return for Re-Use programme, both mechatronic modules and high-tech packaging can be returned for inspection, refurbishment and reuse. This extends the lifespan, reduces material waste and lowers the CO₂ impact of the entire supply chain.

To support this, we promote modular design principles, making systems easier to disassemble, repair and reintegrate into new production cycles.

Why it matters

At FMI, we see sustainability not only as a responsibility, but as a chance to build a stronger, smarter and more future-proof industry.

  • Reducing dependency on scarce raw materials
  • Lowering carbon emissions in production and logistics
  • Supporting sustainable employability and operational efficiency.
